The Moon has Blurred with her Neighbors (2020)

Kyle H Davison’s debut release, The Moon has Blurred with her Neighbors, expands the sonic potential of classical music. Kyle performs Erik Satie’s works for piano, both the well-known and the under-appreciated, on his own homemade instruments. This album features the Pristophone, a pitched percussion instrument made from 65 tuned suspended circular saw blades. Kyle’s novel interpretation of Satie’s piano works—at turns stark, playful, dolorous, mysterious, and joyous—establishes the Pristophone’s capability as a dynamic and broadly expressive instrument. This album took almost two years to produce, recording and overlaying numerous memorized tracks in the brief pauses between passing trains.

Slow and contemplative, this is music for a rainy Sunday afternoon.
